It’s back! The official Skrewdriver “After the Fire” reissue on the original Rock-O-Rama label! No bootlegs, no “private pressings,” and no “imported fan editions” from shady scene hustlers at exorbitant prices!
“After the Fire” was released in late 1988, around Christmas time, and was met with great enthusiasm by their loyal fan base at the time. During that period, the British RAC scene had nearly reached its peak. With “After the Fire” (alongside its predecessor, “White Rider”), Skrewdriver achieved a level of recording quality for the first time that was truly impressive. At the same time, this fifth studio album marks a stylistic shift from the early punk rock, Oi!, and RAC styles toward more refined hard rock elements. Once again, Mark Sutherland handled the recording and production of “After the Fire”; it was also his final project for Skrewdriver and Rock-O-Rama Records. Skrewdriver also brought Ross McGarry on board as a guitarist for this album.
The cover, once again designed by Nicky Crane, is a reinterpretation of a drawing by Georg von Sluyterman von Langeweyde, who was best known for his woodcuts. It depicts three graves with the Tyr rune next to a bare tree. Tyr was considered the original Norse god of battle and war; his rune, Teiwaz, is associated with death, particularly death in battle.
Musically, “After the Fire” resembles Skrewdriver’s fourth album, “White Rider,” though it has a slightly harder edge. The lyrics follow the same pattern and address topics such as police oppression, traitors, media lies, unity, unrest, world wars, and European brothers. “Land of Ice” refers to Ian Stuart’s trip to Sweden in December 1987 and even includes a line sung in Swedish.
Strictly limited to 499 copies, hand-numbered, digitally remastered in 2026 from the original recordings (vinyl mastering), completely restored front and back cover design (with scanned photos from the ROR archive), 12 songs, 35 minutes running time (unfortunately, some songs had to be digitally edited due to the usual malicious misinterpretations), available exclusively on black 12-inch vinyl (tried and true, durable, best sound quality).
