Ian Stuart Donaldson's first and best solo album from 1989. The "No turning back" LP was released shortly after the "After the Fire" album, and like that LP it is punkier than most later Skrewdriver material. And while much of this LP is hard rock, some songs are Oi! heavy: "Fortress Europe", "Battle Cries" and especially "Firepower" sound like what Skrewdriver played on the "Hail the New Dawn" LP. Even the title track, although based on a metal riff, is less than two minutes long and has a lot of punk rage. "Campaign in the East" is one of Ian Stuart's best hard rock compositions, not just on this album but in general.
Fun Fact on the side: the 90 second introduction to this album, "To Freedom We Ride", was fleshed out into a five minute song by Stuart and Stigger three years later for "The Power and the Glory". This is obviously a good bit of self-inspiration that was later cast into a full track.
The songs "Triumph of the will" and "Red flags are burning" are not included on this LP for German legal reasons.
