Finally back in stock! The debut studio album by British RAC legend Skullhead, fronted by singer Kev Turner. The Newcastle-based band made a spectacular debut with this 1987 release, laying the foundation for their future work.
Musically, the album oscillates between classic British street punk and the raw pub charm of northern English skinhead culture in the second half of the 1980s. The opener “White Warrior, Part I” immediately sets the tone: marching drums, aggressive choruses, and a guitar sound that oscillates somewhere between Last Resort and Motörhead. Singer Kev Turner sounds less like a classic skinhead frontman and more like a street fighter with a microphone in his hand. That’s exactly what gives the album its raw authenticity. Songs like “No One Cares,” “Politics of the Street,” or “Murdered by Scum” convey that typical working-class rage that characterized many RAC bands of that era.
Musically, however, the album stands out from many releases of that era. “White Warrior” has real energy, and Tim Ward’s guitar work brings the necessary drive to the tracks; songs like “R.M.P.” and “White Warrior, Part II” demonstrate that Skullhead were capable of more than just a simple three-chord sound. Particularly striking is the blend of anthemic choruses and a dark atmosphere. Historically, “White Warrior” is an important document of late-1980s British RAC and skinhead culture. Anyone seriously interested in the history of Oi!, RAC, and skinhead rock can hardly overlook this album.
Strictly limited to 499 copies, hand-numbered, digitally remastered (vinyl mastering), fully restored back cover design (featuring scanned original photos from the ROR archive), 12 songs, just over 38 minutes of playing time (unfortunately, two songs had to be omitted due to the usual malicious misinterpretations), available exclusively on black 12-inch vinyl (tried and true, durable, best sound).
